H and EΨ

H, the Hamiltonian is the total energy in thermodynamic system, S, and could be a gravitino[2], photon, Richard Feynman, the observable universe (OU) or the universe, for example.

E is the current state (material, luminous, dark, spiritual, shiny or whatever) of that energy. E is an observed quantity or real property of the local spacetime: it is modelled accurately by Minkowski (1864-1909) in 3 dimensions of space plus 1 of ever increasing time: more than one time dimension remains unobserved in reality although imaginary time[3] is probably as real as anything else.

Ψ is the state vector or signpost to the future and twisted[4] configuration.

These three combine in Schrödinger’s equation, H = E Ψ, that is but a part of supersymmetric unitary group theory, SU(N), where N, the number of dimensions, → ∞. There is nothing = 0 = e + 1 (Fourier, 1768-1830) other than the universe of SU(N) yet there is more to it than light helps mortals sense (nothing new here, then). The current view[5] at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, UK, from the shoulders of many giants[6] suggests the framework of reality is 4x space plus 1x time dimensions within which material, radiation and dark energy co-exist.

The Great Telescopes (COBE, WMAP &c) are at limits through which they will probably not see. The limits are those of the OU since its clock began to tick. Anything beyond the OU is theoretical and sometimes quite speculative - Lee Smolin versus Leonard Susskind, et al. However, other telescopes have shown anomalous behaviour at large scales within the OU to demonstrate that cold dark matter and accelerated universal expansion (‘dark energy’) are separate issues.

On the other hand, the Grid around planet Earth is real, finite and positive definite in U(3) and it behaves chaotically (Edward Lorenz, 1960s) - just like ourselves, sometimes. This state may continue ‘til t is up (Stephen Hawking, again) and/or the next cyclic bounce (Paul J. Steinhardt & Neil Turok, 2004) some 10123 years on.

With regard to the ongoing global ‘energy crisis’, analysis shows intermittent micro-hydroelectric power for community use is correct. If the techniques of object-orientation are applied to the design, development and implementation of renewable-resource energy schemes (solar, geothermal, wind-, water- and tidal flow) there is no doubt our species’ (and certainly UK dwellers’) domestic energy requirements can be fulfilled without further spoiling the nest with fossil waste. Coal, oil, nuclear, gas and other resources are too valued to (have these fossil generators of the electric) burn them to toxic gas in internal combustion chambers.

Examples of reality, finity/finitude and ‘positive definite’ (yes, we are sure) exist in “The Road to Reality”, Roger Penrose, 2004, Oxford, UK and elsewhere on the grid.
